Koumas question for Latics

Wigan midfielder Jason Koumas is in a race against time to be fit for tomorrow’s home clash against Portsmouth and maintain his ever- present record this season.

The Latics playmaker withdrew from the Wales squad for their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and San Marino with knee and hip problems and, although Koumas has returned to training with Wigan, manager Chris Hutchings must wait to see if he proves his fitness in time.

Captain Mario Melchiot should be fit after going off with a thigh strain against Manchester United and striker Antoine Sibierski (hamstring) should be available after missing the last two games while Antonio Valencia, who returned to Wigan on Friday after playing in Ecuador’s defeat by Brazil, is doubtful with fluid on his knee.
