Kevin McHugh won the eircom League Cup for Derry City for the third year running with a wonder goal before a packed Brandywell tonight.

Derry started superbly, tearing a sluggish Bohs apart down the right side, creating four chances inside the opening ten minutes.

Mark Farren, Ciaran Martyn both had half chances before the former brought a decent save out of Brian Murphy after all too easily getting the better of Liam Burns.

Bohs survived and soon settled to take the game to Derry and had what appeared a perfectly good goal disallowed on 26 minute.

Glen Crowe headed home John Paul Kelly's corner but was penalised for a foul on keeper Patrick Jennings.

With 90 minutes having failed to separate the sides the game needed a spark of brilliance to bring it to life and that arrived eight minutes into the first period of additional time.

McHugh collected Barry Molloy's pass, dropped his right shoulder on a run inside before unleashing a stunning right foot drive from 25 yard to the top corner of the net.

It give Derry City a hat-trick of eircom League Cups and their record eighth in all.
