Win moves Cork into second
UCD 1 Cork City 2
Denis Behan scored for the sixth match running while Colin O'Brien hit his first of the season as Cork moved up to second place in the table for the first time.
A sublime ball from Gareth Farrelly finally sparked a generally dour game to life on 31 minutes.
O'Brien, who only started as Joe Gamble went over on an ankle in the warm-up, arrived at the near post to steer the ball home.
Farrelly was involved for the second goal on 38 minutes when his long throw found the head of Behan who directed the ball into the far corner of the net for his ninth goal in six games and his 14th of the season.
Patrick McWalter's 81st minute header from Brian King's right wing cross gave UCD hope, but City held on for a big three points.
Cork's win moves them to within eight points of leaders Drogheda and prevents Paul Doolin's side from, potentially, winning the title this Friday.
However, the visit of Cork to United Park on Friday week now looks like proving pivotal.
