Liverpool have Brazilian defender Fabio Aurelio back in their squad for the first time this season but full-back John Arne Riise misses the Champions League trip to Porto.

Aurelio has been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, while Riise is out with a groin problem sustained playing and scoring for Norway last week.

Riise was not included in Liverpool’s squad for the goalless draw at Portsmouth on Saturday and is already a doubt for next weekend’s home match with Birmingham.

Manager Rafael Benitez has also left midfielder Mohamed Sissoko behind but has taken all four of his front-line strikers – Peter Crouch, Andriy Voronin, Dirk Kuyt and Fernando Torres – to Portugal.

Provisional squad: Reina, Finnan, Agger, Carragher, Hyypia, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Pennant, Benayoun, Babel, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Crouch, Torres, Kuyt, Voronin, Itandje.
