Viera in talks with Iraq
Iraq FA president Hussein Saeed has confirmed that talks have taken place with coach Jorvan Vieira with regards to the Brazilian continuing at the helm of the national team.
Media reports in the country claim that Vieira, who led Iraq to the Asian Cup title in July, will remain in charge even though he had previously said he would stand down following the continental tournament.
âThere is nothing official yet," he said.
âWe are waiting for Vieira to come to Amman so that we can negotiate the terms of coaching the team and see his conditions and demands.
âReports that Vieira will not return to coach Iraq have only been media speculation as he has always talked to his Iraqi assistant that he wants to return to the team.â
Saeed also confirmed that there are other candidates for the position in addition to 54-year-old Vieira.
âWe have several negotiations with a lot of coaches including the coaches that we negotiated with before the Asian Cup,â Saeed continued.
âWhat we care for now is to get a coach for the team before our first FIFA World Cup qualifiers match against Pakistan on October 8.â
