An own goal by Billy Gibson extended Derry's unbeaten domestic record to 12 games as St Pat's' lingering title aspirations suffered another dent.

Chances were at a premium in the first half with Derry wasting the best of them in the very first minute.

Ciaran Martyn played Mark Farren in on goal but the striker shot wide.

The only goal of the game came on 66 minutes when a long Derry clearance was headed back towards his own goal by Gibson.

But, unbeknown to him, the defender was far too close to Barry Ryan and the ball beat the keeper to roll into the net for a soft winner.
