Vitesse earn share of top spot in Holland

Vitesse Arnhem joined Feyenoord at the top of the Eredivisie after beating derby rivals NEC Nijmegen 1-0.

Harrie Gommans netted the only goal after 17 minutes to maintain Vitesse’s 100% start to the new season after three games.

Ajax could not keep pace with the top two after being held to a 2-2 draw by FC Groningen in Amsterdam.

Luis Suarez gave the home side a 32nd-minute lead but a brace from Marcus Berg turned the match around.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar came to Ajax’s rescue, however, with an 83rd-minute equaliser.

FC Utrecht and De Graafschap drew 2-2 and Roda JC were emphatic 5-3 winners at VVV.
