O'Neill wanted Davis to stay

Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill has claimed he would have preferred midfielder Steven Davis to remain at the club rather than move to Saturday’s opponents Fulham.

Davis will return to Villa Park for the first time on Saturday since his £4m switch to the Cottagers – and his former Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez – last month.
