Early goals from Kevin Doherty and Dave Mooney eased Longford into the quarter-finals of the FAI Ford Cup as they saw off the challenge of Ulster Senior League Fanad before half-time at Flancare Park.

Fanad had the worst possible start as poor marking from Dessie Baker's first corner of the game found the unmarked Doherty who headed home.

A mistake by Fanad captain John Doherty brought Longford's second goal on 25 minutes. Damien Brennan's long ball bounced in behind the Fanad captain and Mooney ran through to shoot home.

Fanad almost pulled a goal back on 36 minutes. Paddy McGrenaghan put Paddy McNulty in on goal and he brought a good one-handed save from Shay Kelly.

Longford remained well on top into the second half with Mooney wasting a glorious chance of a third goal on 70 minutes when blazing high and wide after Gary Deegan had played him clean through on goal.
