Ashton returns to score winner against Roma

West Ham 2 Roma 1

West Ham 2 Roma 1

Long-term injury absentee Dean Ashton was back on the scoresheet for West Ham as they came from behind to beat Roma at Upton Park.

The visitors took a 13th-minute lead as Ludovic Giuly, a summer signing from Barcelona, gave them the advantage by drilling a shot high past Robert Green.

The equaliser for West Ham came from an unlikely source as George McCartney headed in Freddie Ljungberg's corner in the 63rd minute.

Three minutes later Alan Curbishley's side were in front as Ashton, who missed the whole of last season with an ankle injury, cut in from the right wing and fired in a shot from an acute angle.
