Late strike saves Bolton's blushes against Tranmere

Tranmere 0 Bolton 1

An 83rd-minute goal from Ricardo Vaz Te gave Bolton a 1-0 victory over Tranmere at Prenton Park.

The Portuguese latched on to a pass from El-Hadji Diouf and fired home from 12 yards.

Vaz Te, Diouf and Heidar Helguson were the only three players to keep their places in the starting line up from the team which lost 3-0 to Hibernian in midweek, with captain Kevin Nolan, Kevin Davies and goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen all returning to action.

There was no place for new loan signing Christian Wilhelmsson, whose work permit could not be received in time for him to play, while striker Nicolas Anelka, who has been the subject of recent transfer speculation, did not play either.

The match was delayed by 10 minutes as the Bolton team bus was late arriving at the ground.
