Arsenal lose final friendly in Austria

Red Bull Salzburg 1 Arsenal 0

Arsenal new boy Eduardo da Silva starred in tonight's friendly at Red Bull Salzburg but could not prevent the Gunners falling to a narrow defeat.

Vladimir Janocko's winner 15 minutes from time ensured Arsene Wenger's men ended their Austrian training camp on a losing note but the game was not without its positives.

Eduardo proved a constant thorn in the side of the home side's defence and had numerous chances to mark his first full appearance for the club with a goal.

But ultimately it was Janocko's strong shot from just outside the box which sunk a Gunners line-up which also included the likes of Alexander Hleb, Kolo Toure and captain William Gallas.

Salzburg made a bright start with Sasa Ilic prodding a third-minute shot against Jens Lehmann's post but the Gunners replied immediately with Eduardo only denied a full debut goal by a fine save from Timo Ochs.

The Croatia striker was making a lively start and also fired straight at Ochs as the visitors gradually began to gain control of the match.

Alexander Zickler fired just wide for the home side in front of a noisy crowd of just over 10,000, while the Gunners came close to grabbing the lead after the break in which Wenger made four changes.

One of those introductions, Nicklas Bendtner, flicked on a Hleb cross to Eduardo who shot wide when again he should have hit the back of the net.

Salzburg substitute goalkeeper Ramazan Ozcan took his turn to save another Eduardo effort before Janocko took advantage of a deflected cross from Milan Dudic to sweep home the winner.
