Deadlock in Derry
Derry City 0 FC Pyunik 0
Derry City have a tough ask when they travel to Yerevan next Wednesday for their Champions League qualifying first round, second leg tie against FC Pyunik after being held to a scoreless draw by the Armenian side at the Brandywell tonight.
Winger Paddy McCourt stamped his authority on this first leg on five minutes when cutting inside two defenders on the left before letting fly from the edge of the box, only to see his 18-yard effort finger-tipped over by Kasparov.
The 'keeper again came to Pyunik's rescue on 22 minutes when pushing a shot from by tireless midfielder Barry Molloy from 16 yards round the post after defender Sean Hargan had created the opening on the left.
More McCourt wizardry on the left gave Derry the chance to break the deadlock on 57 minutes. His perfect cross allowed Gareth McGlynn to set up the chance for midfielder Ciaran Martyn.
But his side-footed effort from eight yards was straight at Kasparov.
