Buddies dismiss Fowler link

St Mirren have dismissed reports they have joined the race to sign Robbie Fowler.

The club were surprised by radio reports suggesting the Buddies were interested in the 32-year-old former Liverpool and England striker, who is in talks with Sydney FC.

Chairman Stewart Gilmour said: “I honestly don’t know anything about it and I’ve no idea where this story has developed from.

“Since the reports have been made my phone hasn’t stopped ringing and I’ve had to keep telling people that there is no substance to the story.”

Cardiff and Port Vale are also interested in signing Fowler, who finished his second spell at Anfield at the end of last season.
