Former Scotland international John Robertson has been confirmed as the new manager of Derry City.

Former Scotland international John Robertson has been confirmed as the new manager of Derry City.

The former Hearts and Livingston manager has signed an 18-month contract with the Brandywell club and will be in Cobh to watch his new side play in the League Cup quarter-final tonight at St Colman’s Park.

He will take charge of his first game on Friday night when the Candystripes entertain Sligo Rovers.

"When you are out of a job as a manager you want to get back working as soon as possible," said Robertson.

"Derry City have a big reputation in Scotland, particularly after their exploits in Europe last season.

"There are two matches in three days so I will get a chance to look at what problems are there and I also want to see the positives."
