Berbatov 'happy' at Spurs

Dimitar Berbatov has revealed his admiration for Manchester United – but insists he is happy at Tottenham.

The 26-year-old Bulgaria striker has been linked to United and Chelsea following his impressive first season at White Hart Lane after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen a year ago.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is determined to keep the club’s best players to build on their fifth-placed Premiership finish, and Berbatov has always stated how settled he is at the club.

“I am a happy man in Tottenham,” he said in Bulgarian newspaper Standart.

“The club gives me everything I need to feel nice with them, and I actually do. As for United, of course I like Alex’s team.

“Their style is attacking and pleasant to watch, and it coincides with my own style of playing football.

“(Ryan) Giggs, (Paul) Scholes and (Wayne) Rooney are fantastic players and Cristiano Ronaldo on the right side is a magician with the ball, he plays football from another planet.

“Of course, it would be a pleasure for me to play with these guys; they simply know how to have fun on the pitch.”

Boss Martin Jol has previously stated he would not sell Berbatov for £40m although another of his strikers, Mido, faces an uncertain future after admitting his permanent move to the club was a mistake.

Jol has been linked with moves for Darren Bent and Nikola Zigic to supplement his attack, while the Dutchman was reported to be interested in West Ham’s Marlon Harewood during the previous transfer window.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will take part in the pre-season Vodacom Challenge in South Africa next month.

Manchester United are the only club outside Africa who have previously played in the tournament hosted by Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
