Rovers dent City title hopes
Shamrock Rovers 2 Cork City 0
Shamrock Rovers moved up to fourth in the table with a second big win over title-contenders inside five days.
Rovers were the better side in the first 45 minutes and good value for their half-time lead.
That came on 19 minutes when Barry Ferguson got on the end of David Cassidy's free-kick to head home.
Cork skipper Dan Murray then almost put through his own goal after his sliced clearance from Dave O'Connor's cross hit Rovers striker Tadhg Purcell.
Ger Rowe added a second for Rovers on 58 minutes to seal the points when shooting home Cassidy's corner.
