A legal challenge to the decision not to dock West Ham points for contract irregularities involving Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano is “bound to fail”, the Premier League have warned.

Fulham, Sheffield United, Wigan and Charlton joined forces last week to explore the possibility of contesting an independent disciplinary commission’s decision to fine the Hammers £5.5m and not deduct points – which would have effectively seen the club relegated.
