Chelsea confirm Shevchenko surgery

Chelsea have confirmed striker Andriy Shevchenko will have a groin hernia operation tomorrow.

The surgery was originally scheduled to take place at the end of the season, but the club’s medical department decided to bring it forward.

As a result Shevchenko, a £30m (42.9m) summer signing from AC Milan, will now miss the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley on May 19.
