Sammon rescues point for UCD

Conor Sammon earned UCD a point tonight with a late leveller at Belfield to ruin Longford's hopes of a second win on the spin.

College ran much of the first half with Sammon and Paul Byrne coming close to scoring before the latter put them in front on 25 minutes.

A defensive mistake by Longford skipper Damien Brennan was pounced on by Byrne, who raced away to shoot past Shay Kelly.

But Longford came right back into it in the second half when Robbie Martin equalised on 54 minutes before John Reilly shot them in front seven minutes later.

However, Sammon struck in the final minute to head home Ian Bermingham’s left wing cross to earn UCD a point.
