St Patrick's rode their luck to regain the leadership of the League of Ireland Premier Division with a penalty and two own goals to beat Sligo at the Showgrounds.

Rovers started brightly, but fell behind on 17 minutes when Gary O'Neill sent Richard Brush the wrong way from a penalty, awarded when Dave Mulcahy was sandwiched between Chris Turner and Cornor O'Grady.

Both sides had chances before St Pat's extended their lead in first-half stoppage time when Rovers skipper Jamie McKenzie headed Anto Murphy's cross into his own net.

Left-back Sean Kelly did precisely the same as his captain six minutes into the second half to end the game as a contest when his back-header from Murphy's long throw looped into the net.

Man-of-the-match Mulcahy completed the rout on the hour mark when drilling low into the net after waltzing through the Rovers defence.
