He rested Lassana Diarra, Michael Ballack, Ashley Cole and Andriy Shevchenko with Claude Makelele, Paulo Ferreira, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Wayne Bridge starting.

Tottenham coach Martin Jol went one further after their defeat to Sevilla in the UEFA Cup. Strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane were rested along with Didier Zokora, Young-Pyo Lee and Aaron Lennon.

Teemu Tainio, Mido, Hossam Ghaly, Jermain Defoe and Ricardo Rocha replaced them.

Chelsea: Cech, Ferreira, Carvalho, Terry, Bridge, Makelele, Lampard, Mikel, Drogba, Wright-Phillips, Kalou. Subs: Hilario, Shevchenko, Joe Cole, Ballack, Diarra.

Tottenham: Robinson, Stalteri, Dawson, Rocha, Chimbonda, Jenas, Tainio, Ghaly, Malbranque, Mido, Defoe. Subs: Cerny, Zokora, Berbatov, Taarabt, Ifil.
