Given and Ireland likely to be fit for Slovakia game

Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton has confirmed that Shay Given will take part in Wednesday night's Croke Park clash with Slovakia.

The goalkeeper sat out training with the squad this afternoon after picking up a knee injury on Saturday.

Stephen Ireland played a full part in this afternoon's session at Malahide, and looks likely to be fit for the match despite departing from the Wales game early, with a groin strain.

Staunton made only a short comment on his players' injury concerns following training today, speaking to the media for just 32 seconds, and refusing to take questions.
