Lampard keen to move on after fan attack

Frank Lampard hopes lessons can be learned from the ugly scenes at the end of Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final replay victory at White Hart Lane.

A Tottenham fan ran on to the pitch and aimed a punch at Lampard although he was quickly restrained following the Blues’ 2-1 victory which saw them advance to the semi-finals on Monday night.

The supporter, an 18-year-old from Slough, will appear at Haringey Magistrates next week after being charged with encroaching on to the pitch.

Spurs have given the supporter a lifetime ban from White Hart Lane and have given Chelsea the details of another fan who made it on to the pitch.

Now the England player is keen to look forward rather than dwell on the incident.

“It was disappointing,” Lampard told Sky Sports News.

“You enjoy celebrating a win and when something like that happens it shocks you.

“I think when a couple of days pass and you don’t see it on the front of the papers and everything, then maybe it will just be something that hopefully can be put right and not happen again.”

Jose Mourinho is relishing fielding his strongest team for the finale of a campaign where Chelsea have had “everything against us” yet remain in the hunt for a quadruple.

Mourinho has bemoaned injuries to key players, the fixture schedule and referees’ decisions during a season which sees them trail Manchester United in the Barclays Premiership by six points with eight games left.

While their schedule may not help them catch United, Mourinho at least has players returning – Joe Cole hopes to be back next month, while skipper John Terry and goalkeeper Petr Cech are playing again after being sidelined.

Michael Essien missed the FA Cup quarter-final replay against Tottenham but his knee complaint is not thought to be serious.

“All season, we’ve never played with our best team. We lost Petr Cech, we lost Joe Cole, we lost John Terry, now Michael Essien,” said Mourinho.

“I think when we play with a team similar to our best team we can show what we can do. The way we progress in the cups shows what this team is.

“The fact that we are second in the Premiership and six points behind shows what we had in December and January – I almost played centre-back!

“It’s a brilliant season by these boys, we just need to win more trophies.”

Despite trailing United in the Premiership, there is still the possibility of a quadruple.

“It’s still possible,” added Mourinho. “We have a 25% chance in the FA Cup, we have 12.5% chance in the Champions League, to win the Premiership we have to win every game and we need Manchester United to lose four more points.

“It doesn’t depend on us. If we could play Manchester United three times, maybe.”

The teams were due to meet at Stamford Bridge on April 14 but the game was postponed with both sides still in the FA Cup.

Now it has been rearranged for Wednesday, May 9 and will be the penultimate league game of the season for both sides.

“There is nothing we can do,” Mourinho added. “Everything in this league went against us – injuries, decisions, fixtures.

“Now we have the Manchester United game we want to play now that we have to play later on. In the same week we have to play West Ham away and Newcastle away.

“Everything went against us but we are here.”
