Terrific goals from Glen Fitzpatrick and Eamon Zayed brought title favourites Drogheda their first win of the season, but they were made to fight all the way for the three points.

UCD stunned the home crowd to take an 11th minute lead.

Conan Byrne's corner wasn't dealt with by the Drogheda defence and Derek Doyle control the ball on his chest to swivel and drill a low shot past Dan Connor.

However, Drogheda were level on 29 minutes. UCD keeper Darren Quigley could only parry away Stuart Byrne's long-range shot and skipper Declan O'Brien shot home the rebound with the help of a deflection.

Fitzpatrick chipped home a delightful goal on 61 minutes before substitute Zayed swept home a third six minutes later to appear to put Drogheda in command.

But UCD hit back through substitute Bogdan Opera on 85 minutes to give the home fans a nervous ending.
