Bluebirds angered by charges

Cardiff are to contest the disciplinary charges levelled at manager Dave Jones and on-loan Charlton midfielder Simon Walton.

Cardiff are to contest the disciplinary charges levelled at manager Dave Jones and on-loan Charlton midfielder Simon Walton.

Both concern the Bluebirds’ fiery 1-0 Coca-Cola Championship success over Leeds at Ninian Park on February 17, when Walton and top-scorer Michael Chopra were sent off.

Jones has been charged by the Football Association of Wales of bringing the game into disrepute after allegedly criticising referee Mark Clattenburg.

Walton, 19, must answer a charge of improper conduct after kicking the electronic substitutes’ board as he walked off the pitch.

“We are very disappointed that the FAW have taken the decision to bring these charges,” said Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale.

“Anyone who was at the Leeds game will understand why we have taken the decision to try to get these charges against our manager and our player dropped.”

If the governing body find Jones guilty, they will almost certainly implement a £1,000 (€1,480) suspended fine on the former Southampton and Wolves boss.

Jones accused match referee Andy Woolmer of “cheating” his players following a 3-3 draw at Luton in February last year.
