Alex Ferguson is convinced the best is yet to come from Wayne Rooney with his recent rest apparently working wonders for the 21-year-old striker’s goalscoring potential this season.

Since Ferguson decided to refocus his young star by leaving him on the bench for Manchester United’s Premiership fixture at Portsmouth last month, Rooney has responded with three timely strikes to keep his side in pole position.
