Huth signing beat deadline

Liverpool have revealed they clinched the signing of teenage defender Ronald Huth before the end of January’s transfer window.

The 17-year-old Paraguayan has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds and will not have to wait for a work permit as he holds an Italian passport.

Huth’s signing from Tacuary FC made him manager Rafael Benitez’s third confirmed deadline day capture alongside Spaniards Alvaro Arbeloa and Francisco Manuel Duran.

Argentinian Javier Mascherano was also registered in time to play for the Anfield club for the rest of the season, although the Premier League are yet to sanction his move.
