Inter see off Sampdoria to maintain lead
Internazionale maintained their 11-point lead at the top of Serie A after extending their winning streak to 14 matches with victory over Sampdoria this evening.
Four days after winning 3-0 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in the Coppa Italia semi-final, Roberto Mancini’s side earned three more league points to take a step closer to the title.
Playing with only 10 men following the seventh-minute dismissal of Gennaro Delvecchio, Samp put up a brave fight before succumbing to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic header in the 38th minute. Maicon then sealed the win in the 75th minute.
Earlier in the day second-placed Roma had briefly cut Inter’s lead to eight points with a narrow victory over 10-man Siena at the Stadio Olimpico.
Mirko Vucinic struck his first goal of the season on the hour mark, while Siena striker Thomas Locatelli was sent off in the last minute for an elbow on Daniele De Rossi.
Catania failed to leapfrog Lazio into fourth place after being held to a 1-1 draw at Atalanta, while substitute Filippo Inzaghi came to AC Milan’s rescue with a second-half goal to give his side a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Parma.
