Simpson secures Sunderland move

Sunderland have signed Manchester United defender Danny Simpson on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old right-back, who has progressed through the ranks at Old Trafford, has had two previous loan spells at Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane told the club’s official website, www.safc.com: “We’re delighted to get Danny. He’s a tough full-back, a very good young player who was keen to come to Sunderland.

“I’m grateful to Manchester United for allowing him to join us and hopefully he’ll play his part for the club.”

Simpson is the fifth player to move to the Stadium of Light in January, following fellow loanee Jonny Evans, Marton Fulop, Carlos Edwards and Anthony Stokes, and he could feature in Tuesday’s game against Crystal Palace.
