Chimbonda looking for Gunners double

Pascal Chimbonda insists Tottenham have the firepower to enable the Frenchman to inflict semi-final misery in consecutive seasons for Arsenal.

The 27-year-old full-back was in the Wigan team who snatched a late away goal at Highbury to reach the Carling Cup final last season, and Spurs will need to score at least once at the Emirates Stadium next week.

Julio Baptista’s second-half double at White Hart Lane ensured yesterday’s first leg finished 2-2, putting Arsenal in the driving seat to meet Chelsea in the final.

Chimbonda, who joined Spurs from the JJB Stadium in the summer, believes his new side have the quality to get a result at Arsenal’s ground.

“Wigan got the goal they needed at Highbury so anything is possible for us at the Emirates, we can definitely score there,” said the Guadeloupe-born right-back.

“I know what it takes to beat Arsenal and get to the final and Tottenham are good enough to do it.

“They are back in the tie but there is still the second leg and we still have a good chance to get the final.”

Spurs’ first appearance at the Emirates Stadium ended in a dismal 3-0 defeat and, despite the three goals coming from questionable decisions from the officials, Chimbonda wants to make amends for that poor performance.

Arsenal have not been beaten at their new stadium, making Tottenham’s task even harder, but they are set to field their youngsters again after the impressive comeback last night.

“I don’t know if Arsenal are a stronger team than last year but it would be really special to be the first team to win at the Emirates,” said Chimbonda.

“We lost there earlier in the season but the cup is different from the Premiership and everyone wants to play in the final. There is a still a belief we can do it.”
