Chelsea, Manchester United and their rivals will be playing for a £50m (€76.1m) pay day when they set out in pursuit of the 2007/08 Premiership title in August this year, thanks to the revenue agreed in a new global television contract.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has detailed the riches available to the winners and losers in English football’s championship from next year onwards.

They represent an increase of almost £20m (€30.5m) for the top club on the prize scooped by current champions Chelsea for their success last year.

Scudamore told The Daily Telegraph: “This deal really does take us on to another level.

“It means that the team at the top, who got £30m (€45.7m) last year, will get around £50m (€76.1m), while even those at the bottom will receive about £30m.”
