Wright leaves Latics for Ipswich

Wigan defender David Wright has joined Championship club Ipswich for an undisclosed fee.

Wigan defender David Wright has joined Championship club Ipswich for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old, who had a spell on loan at Norwich last season, was out of contract at the end of the season.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell told the club’s official website, www.wiganlatics.co.uk: “Wrighty is a terrific pro who has worked really hard to get his chance with us after a long period on the sidelines.

“He’s never moaned and has always tried his best for me, which as a manager is all you can ask for. Ironically, he’s had his longest spell in the team for a while in recent weeks and had done well, proving to himself that he can perform at the highest level.

“However, I owe it to him to give him the chance of permanent first-team football, which hopefully he will get at Ipswich.”
