Burke: Rangers still my 'first choice'

Chris Burke believes his future lies with Rangers despite the winger having failed to agree a new deal at the club.

The 23-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to speak to other clubs in January.

Reports claim Burke – whose father acts as his agent – has already rejected an offer of £12,000 per week to remain at Ibrox, leading to fears he could be set to quit Rangers.

But the talented youngster insists he wants to remain at the club and reach an agreement over his future as soon as possible.

“I can’t really tell you much,” he said. “All I will say is that Rangers is my first choice and I do want to stay here.

“Hopefully my future will be sorted and sooner rather than later.”

Meanwhile, Burke has confessed that Celtic’s Aiden McGeady is not entirely responsible for the injury which has wrecked most of his season.

Burke has been out of action since an apparently innocuous tug on his arm forced him out of the Old Firm derby in September.

He needed surgery to repair the ligaments in his shoulder but has revealed the damage was actually sustained before he even made the trip to Celtic Park.

He told the Rangers News: “The shoulder injury has been frustrating but what a lot of people don’t realise is that I’ve done it twice before in training and that’s when it really happened.

“The ligaments in my arm were a bit weakened so all it took was a tug on my arm and the shoulder actually came out of the socket which was quite painful.

“That’s why I knew in the Celtic game what had happened even though it probably looked to most people that not very much had happened.

“It got to the point that with just a little bit of contact the arm would come out so something had to be done.”
