Daum keen to get back to work

Former Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce coach Christoph Daum has claimed to have had talks with clubs in England over a return to management.

Daum, who resigned his post at Fener in May claiming an impending hip operation would take him away from his post for too long, is itching to find a new job.

He said: "I have had some requests, some from England, but nothing concrete.

"I want to get back to work straight away.

"My new club should have ambitions of playing in the Champions League."

Several Bundesliga clubs are also likely to be interested in Daum, most notably Schalke, Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund.

However, despite their respective troubles, they all still have a coach.

Daum added: "It would not be serious to talk of clubs who already have a coach in place, but I won't rule out the subject of the Bundesliga."

The 53-year-old's immediate concern, however, is to return to full fitness.

On Sunday, he checked into a Cologne hospital after losing his voice for over a week, and immediately underwent emergency surgery.

"I was close to blood poisoning," he told the Bild newspaper.

"A virus had struck my vocal chords and I could not even talk for six days."
