Falkirk hold Celtic scoreless in first half

Goal-line clearances by Darren Barr and Stephen O’Donnell prevented Celtic taking a first-half lead in their CIS Insurance Cup quarter-final tie against Falkirk at Parkhead.

The visitors played some neat and tidy football in the early stages but in the 21st minute, after Bairns keeper Jeroen Lambers had failed to effectively punch clear an Aiden McGeady cross, Barr was perfectly placed to block a Shaun Maloney drive which was heading into the net.

A minute before the break O’Donnell knocked a header from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink off the line following a Derek Riordan corner.
