Ajax reclaim top spot

Ajax returned to the Eredivisie summit on Sunday after a convincing 3-0 win at Heracles.

PSV Eindhoven had gone top on Saturday following a 3-0 win over NAC Breda but the defending champions dropped to second thanks to the Amsterdammers’ performance in Almelo.

Kenneth Perez gave the visitors a 39th-minute lead and even though defender Johnny Heitinga saw red in the 52nd minute, Danish international Perez doubled the advantage nine minutes from time from the penalty spot.

Wesley Sneijder completed the rout in the 87th minute.

Moussa Dembele and Danny Koevermans scored first-half goals as third-placed AZ Alkmaar won 2-0 at RKC Waalwijk.

FC Twente are fourth following a goalless draw at FC Utrecht while Feyenoord stay sixth after beating Vitesse Arnhem 2-1.

Goals from Lasse Nilsson and Afonso Alves enabled Heerenveen to beat rock-bottom Sparta Rotterdam 2-0.

Jefferson Farfan was the two-goal hero as PSV beat NAC on Saturday. Farfan’s goals, one in each half, sandwiched a strike from Phillip Cocu.

FC Groningen beat Roda JC 2-1 at Euroborg and ADO Den Haag twice came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw with Excelsior.
