Barcelona look to have avoided a potential striker crisis after it was revealed Eidur Gudjohnsen´s ankle injury is not as bad as initially feared.

The Iceland international was carried off on a stretcher in the second half of last night´s Champions League match against former club Chelsea, after landing awkwardly on his left ankle.

A serious injury to Gudjohnsen would have left Barca desperately short of cover up front, with star striker Samuel Eto´o out until next year and Maxi Lopez on loan at Real Mallorca.

But Barcelona have confirmed that Gudjohnsen, who underwent an MRI scan this morning, has not damaged the ligaments in his left ankle and could be back in action soon.

Gudjohnsen has been put on a course of anti-inflammatories and will undergo more tests tomorrow to see if he will be available for this weekend´s Primera Liga game against Deportivo La Coruna.

Gudjohnsen netted against Chelsea to put Barca 2-1 up, but the reigning Spanish and European champions could not hold on and were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw.
