Palermo continue to keep pace with Internazionale at the top of Serie A after a late goal from Carvalho Amauri earned them a 3-2 win over Fiorentina.

Amauri struck his second goal of the game with one minute remaining to make certain of the victory which keeps them level on points with the Milan club.

David Di Michelle had given Palermo an early lead before Andrea Barzagli’s own goal on the half-hour mark allowed Fiorentina to level the scores.

Amauri then restored the Sicilians’ advantage after 80 minutes only for Adrian Mutu to cancel out the goal, before the Brazilian forward snatched a late winner.

Siena climbed into the top four with a 1-0 win over 10-man Ascoli.

Despite the first-half dismissal of Simone Pesce, Ascoli looked to be heading for a share of the spoils until Paul Codrea breached the home defence four minutes from time.

A late red card for Daniele Corvia tarnished Siena’s achievements, but it came too late for Ascoli as the visitors secured their fourth victory of the season.

Parma needed two late goals to secure a 3-1 victory over Atalanta while Livorno and Empoli shared a goalless draw in the Tuscany derby as the hosts maintained their unbeaten run at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

And it was the same scoreline at the Stadio Olimpico where Reggina secured a point against a Lazio side which had Cristian Ledesma sent off in the dying seconds.

Daniele Conti blasted the only goal of the match against Sampdoria to give Cagliari their long-awaited first win of the season.

Messina gave new Chievo boss Luigi Del Neri another reality check with a last-gasp 2-1 victory at the Stadio San Filippo to leave the away side still searching for their first win of the season.

Torino continue to struggle under Alberto Zaccheroni and could only manage a 1-1 draw in an away fixture with Catania.

On Saturday, Internazionale won the first Milan derby of the season with a dramatic 4-3 win over city rivals AC Milan at the San Siro.

And Roma ended their three-game run without victory thanks to a 1-0 win over 10-man Udinese.
