Carlo Cudicini returned to the bench after concussion but boss Jose Mourinho kept faith in third-choice goalkeeper Hilario. Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba were among those who returned after being rested for the midweek Carling Cup match at Blackburn.

Danny Webber was the only Blades player to keep his place following their Carling Cup loss to Birmingham, while defender Claude Davis returned after being suspended for last week’s match at Everton.
