Bright start to Toon European campaign

Antoine Sibierski proved Newcastle’s European hero once again as his late strike handed them a winning start to the UEFA Cup Group H campaign tonight.

The Frenchman fired past keeper Rustu Recber from close range with 11 minutes remaining to claim three precious points as the Magpies snatched victory in a tight encounter.

Glenn Roeder’s men had enjoyed the better chances with Rustu earlier saving from Obafemi Martins, but there was little to choose between the sides.
