Shels stretch lead
Longford Town 0 Shelbourne 0
An invaluable point for Shelbourne as they took advantage of Derry City’s slip up at home to Drogheda to stretch their lead at the top of the table.
Pat Fenlon’s Reds now lead champions Cork City by eight points and are 10 ahead of faltering Derry with six games to go.
Shels started brightly with Joseph Ndo missing the proverbial sitter form Gary O’Neill cross on two minutes.
Jason Byrne was then played clean through on goal four minutes later to force Keeper Shay Kelly into a good stop with his feet.
Shels enjoyed much possession on the resumption, but it was Longford who came closest to breaking the deadlock on 56 minutes.
Alan Kirby laid the ball off with a neat flick and Steven Gough’s terrific right-footer from all of 35-yards was inches over Steve Williams' crossbar.
