Coleman: McBride's form is picking up

Fulham boss Chris Coleman believes Brian McBride is close to his best form following the striker’s goal in last night’s bizarre 3-3 draw at Watford.

With Fulham 2-0 down with 19 minutes remaining, substitute McBride scored with a crisp volley that inspired Fulham to go on and seize a 3-2 lead, only for Ashley Young to snatch a point for Watford with an 89th-minute strike.

Coleman said: “Brian is starting to come into his own. It has taken a bit of time, but the goal was a fantastic finish.”

Marlon King and Young scored either side of half-time to put the Hornets into a commanding lead, and they seemed to be cruising towards their first Barclays Premiership win of the season.

But McBride’s goal sent panic through the Watford ranks, and it was little surprise when Heidar Helguson, who left Watford to join Fulham in the summer of 2005, equalised with seven minutes remaining.

Damien Francis then scored an awful own-goal, thrashing the ball into his own net from three yards after some appalling Watford defending, which seemed to have set up an unlikely win for Coleman's team.
