Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill named an unchanged line-up for the home Premiership clash with Charlton.

O’Neill kept faith with the side which had overcome Scunthorpe in midweek to reach the third round of the Carling Cup.

Martin Laursen, who had impressed in the previous two league games with West Ham and Watford, had to be content with a place on the substitutes’ bench.

Midfielder Gavin McCann passed himself fit after a scan on a calf injury suffered at Scunthorpe revealed no substantial damage.

Charlton, currently third from bottom, welcomed back defender Hermann Hreidarsson after suspension, while Matt Holland and Bryan Hughes were also restored to the side.

Jonathan Fortune, was again pressed into service despite suffering from a broken toe.
