Rovers upset Bohs to advance to quarter-final
Bohemians 0 Shamrock Rovers 2
A superbly taken brace of goals from David Cassidy and a stunning penalty save from Barry Murphy saw Shamrock Rovers dump arch-rivals Bohemians out of the FAI Carlsberg Cup in a dramatic third round replay at Dalymount Park tonight.
Having weathered a Bohs storm for virtually the entire first half, Rovers struck to take the lead right on 45 minutes.
Tadhg Purcell crossed low into the area and Ger Rowe set up Cassidy who shot past Stephen O’Brien.
John Paul Kelly appeared to have got Bohs back into it when winning a 53rd minute penalty, but player/boss Gareth Farrelly’s spot kick was brilliantly saved by Murphy.
Cassidy then put the gloss on Rovers’ night with a super solo goal on 74 minutes, ghosting past three defenders before shooting to the net from 15 yards.
