Ireland humbled as Netherlands inflict rout
Rep of Ireland 0 Netherlands 4
The Republic of Ireland suffered one of the worst defeats in their history after Holland ran them ragged at Lansdowne Road.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar was the star for Holland on his debut, scoring two goals and setting up the other two for Chelsea’s Arjen Robben and Arsenal’s Robin van Persie.
The 4-0 mauling fell one goal short of the record on Irish soil – a 5-0 embarrassment to Spain in 1931.
