Norwich accept Hammers bid for 'keeper Green

West Ham have confirmed they have had a £2m (€3m) bid for England squad goalkeeper Robert Green accepted by Norwich.

The deal is still subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

The fee also looks like being ultimately decided by the number of appearances the 26-year-old makes for the Hammers.

Green is currently recovering from a groin injury sustained while playing for England B against Belarus in May – an injury which ruled him out of the World Cup finals in the summer.

He was omitted from Steve McClaren’s first England squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Greece at Old Trafford.

The Hammers will make no further comment until the transfer has been officially finalised.

Green was tipped to join Charlton – West Ham’s rivals at Upton Park in next Saturday’s Premiership opener – over the weekend. He was even reportedly due for a medical at the south-east London club this afternoon.

But Hammers boss Alan Pardew appears to have moved smartly to win the race for him.

Pardew lost Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll – his high-profile signing from Manchester United – halfway through last season with a back operation, while deputy Shaka Hislop quit for FC Dallas in North America after the FA Cup final in May.

Carroll made his comeback in a pre-season friendly against Greek side PAOK in Thessaloniki just over a week ago and played the full 90 minutes.

But he was substituted at half-time by Jimmy Walker when West Ham drew 1-1 with another Greek team Olympiakos at Upton Park on Saturday.
