Alex Ferguson has confirmed Manchester United are on the verge of signing Michael Carrick from Tottenham.

Ferguson has already had one £10million bid for the England midfielder turned down but, in the wake of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure for Real Madrid, has pursued his interest in Carrick further.
