Goals from Alan Kirby and Robbie Martin got Longford back to winning ways as St. Pat’s slumped to a third defeat on the spin.

Saints were much the better side for the opening half hour, but were left to rue wasted chances from Trevor Molloy, Darragh Maguire and Paul keegan as they trooped off at the break a goal down.

That came on 35 minutes when John Martin did well to work the ball into Alan Kirby who was calmness personified as he stroked the ball to the corner of the net from edge of the box.

Robbie Martin ought to have doubled Longford’s lead when played through on goal by Davy Byrne on 51 minutes but he rushed his shot and it was parried away by Barry Ryan.

But Martin made amends on 64 minutes when making it 2-0 with a diving header from older brother John’s cross as Saints were caught napping from a quick throw.
