Juve face up to life in Serie B
Juventus were facing the bleakest moment in their club history tonight after being relegated from Serie A.
Italy’s most successful club with 29 league titles, nine Coppa Italia and four Italian Supercup triumphs, Juve will now toil in Serie B for the first time in their 107-year history after being found guilty following an investigation into match-fixing.
It comes just two months after city rivals Torino won promotion to the top flight for the first time since 2003.
Lazio, meanwhile, are not newcomers to the second division.
The Roman outfit has been relegated four times before, the first time in 1961.
They were also forced into Serie B alongside AC Milan following the infamous betting scandal in 1980 which led to the suspension of Azzurri legend Paolo Rossi, and remained in the second tier for three seasons.
Fiorentina were relegated in 1993 and bounced back, yet they faced a financial crisis nine years later.
The Viola earned promotion to the top flight in the summer of 2004 to end a two-year exile from the top-flight following relegation to Serie C2, Italy’s fourth division, when they had been declared bankrupt.
Juve’s demotion means that Inter Milan are now the only club in the top flight never to have been relegated.
